I've always had food in my blood! After all I am Portuguese. For those who don't get the pun in that last line, its a play on the fact that Portuguese love food. In fact sometimes I think that its the only reason for our existence, to eat! My father a butcher and my mother a typical Portuguese woman, in our house the kitchen and dinning room were the most important places. The eldest of three kids I always loved the kitchen and by the time I reached seventeen I knew that if I wasn't entertaining on a staged I would only be happy surrounded by food. Whether cooking, baking or serving, it was the only place I felt at home. I went to work for one of Toronto's finest restaurants and went to college for hospitality management. Then at about twenty two I made possibly a huge mistake but one that would later bring me the greatest gift the world could offer. I left the restaurant I held so dear to my heart and moved closer to my parents. I ended up opening a cleaning business and putting aside my passion. The goal was to make as much money as fast as possible. Then sell the business and give acting one last try by going to California to school for film. Instead I met some one and did the one thing I swore I would never do again. I put myself on the back burner and moved away with the man that I still share my life with now. After five years together we had a beautiful little girl named Maxxine. (shes that special gift) Although through the years I continued to cook and bake, nothing compared to the year my daughter turned two and I decided I would make her a cake. It was the most alive I had felt in years I worked until late but I never got tired, I was so excited to be doing something I loved so much that I didn't notice time or anything else. I realised I had to get back in to that field some how. I had to show my daughter that your never to old to follow your dreams or to do what you love and I had to do it for me as well. soon I had friends and customers asking me to make sweets and cakes and other dishes. I was happy to oblige. My better half started pushing me more and more to go back and do what I loved. My friends who had always questioned why I stopped in the first place gave me the final push and so I'm back in school and in the kitchen. These are my adventures! I hope I can pass on some tips and helpful recipes along the way and I hope everyone enjoys reading my blog.
